Sent specifically to you. Please don't forward.
The link is tied to your name in Chad's contacts. If it ends up somewhere Chad didn't intend to share it, Chad can trace where the leak came from. That's how the new number stays private. Forwarding the link defeats that — even if you trust the person you'd forward it to.
Before saving — confirm with Chad
Confirm with Chad on a channel you both already trust — the legacy number, an in-person conversation, or any existing voice line. This is the strongest defense against impersonation, and it takes about 30 seconds.
- Call the legacy number you already have for Chad and ask: “did you just send me a Telemender link?”
- Or check with Chad on a channel they originally invited you to (work email, Signal, etc.).
- If you can’t reach Chad on a known channel, wait. Don’t use a number from the link itself to verify the link.
Hi M****e — Chad asked me to send you this.
Chad has changed phone numbers for privacy reasons, and needs your help to make sure you can reach them reliably and don't accidentally share the new number with the wrong people.
This takes about two minutes. Your existing message history with Chad stays exactly where it is — you won't lose any past conversations.
Heads-up if anything feels off
You may be seeing this message from a number you don't recognize. That's intentional — it's Chad's new active line. The number that's been in your contacts is being deprecated; the message you're reading came from the new one so you can save it directly and reply in this thread going forward. If anything about this feels off — you weren't expecting them to migrate, the message tone feels wrong — reach out through any other channel you have for Chad before tapping anything else. Better paranoid than scammed.
Before you delete: save anything you've personalized
Telemender can't see your contact card or back it up for you — this is on your device.
Your existing Chad contact may have details you added — a birthday, an address, notes, a photo, a ringtone, related people. Those are yours; Chad's new card has their own info but can't carry the notes you've written. Capture anything you want to keep before you delete the old card.
Skip — I haven't personalized this contact ↓
If your phone can take a screenshot, capture the Chad contact scrolled all the way down.
Otherwise, jot down the fields you care about — birthday, address, notes — on paper or in any notes app you have.
Update your contacts on your device
- Open your phone's contacts app and find the existing Chad entry.
- Delete that contact. Your message history with Chad is not affected.
- Save the two new contact cards below, however your device supports vCards.
Two contacts to save
- Save contact
Chad Raven
The new active number.
- Save contact

Kept for thread continuity. SMS only — no iMessage.
Add your personal fields back
Now copy anything you saved onto the new Chad contact, if you want to keep it. Common ones worth preserving:
- Birthday — your calendar and reminders depend on it.
- Notes you've written — kids' names, allergies, “met at Bob's wedding,” anything.
- Address, if you'd recorded one.
- Custom photo or ringtone you'd set.
- Anniversary, related names (spouse, kids).
If you only ever had Chad's name and number, there's nothing to copy — you're done.
